John McGarrity
John was born and raised in Peterborough and established his practice over 30 years ago.
John graduated from Trent University attaining:
- Dean’s Honor List
- Trent University Scholarship.
He then attended Ottawa University for his Bachelor of Laws and graduated with:
- Stikeman Elliott Prize (highest standing in Administrative Law)
- Hugh Doyle Memorial Fund (highest standing in Family Law)
- Carswell Book Prize (highest standing in Torts Law)
- Graduated Magna Cum Lauda
- University of Ottawa Merit Scholarship
John’s involvement has continued with local community organizations including:

- KAIROS Non-Profit Housing of Peterborough
- Canadian National Institute for the Blind
- Peterborough/Lakefield Humane Society
- Salvation Army
- Peterborough Regional Health Care Foundation

To stay current, John has continued his studies each year with various courses and seminars including;
- a publication in the Family Law Quarterly based on child support for disabled adults
- obtaining his Master of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School
